Anyone who paid attention to hip-hop in the mid-'90s knew that one of the phatest production crews of the era was the DITC, or "Diggin' in the Crates," crew. The group had a penchant for finding slick-sounding, obscure samples; the kinds panned like gold from dusty crates of old records lying in the corner of someone's basement. The collective's raucous self-titled release features contributions from some of up of hip-hop luminaries, including Diamond D, Lord Finesse, Fat Joe, O.C., Buckwild, Showbiz, A.G., and the then-recently deceased Big L. DJ Premier weaves his signature head-nodding beats into tracks like "Thick," "Da Enemy," and "Ebonics." There's also a guest spot from Big Pun, whose characteristically rotund lyrical delivery thickens "Drop It Heavy" (which also features KRS-One) and "Where Ya At." Other monster cuts include "Champagne Thoughts" (featuring O.C.), "Day One" (featuring Diamond D, Big L, Lord Finesse, O.C., and A.G.), and "Get Yours" (featuring O.C., Big L, and Diamond D). Though the late '90s/early '00s saw scores of hip-hop collaboration albums, D.I.T.C. is one of the finest.

Master P's early-'90s underground activity blossomed on The Ghettos Tryin to Kill Me!, a wonderfully exploitative album driven by lo-fi G-funk beats and gutter-mentality gangsta rhymes. The album itself doesn't sound too much different from Master P's other early releases, still marred by a spare-change production quality; however, it's the execution that makes The Ghettos Tryin to Kill Me! such an impressive step forward for the aspiring kingpin. Rather than simply emulate West Coast gangsta rappers like N.W.A and Above the Law as he had on previous releases, Master P begins to carve out a niche of his own here. The Dirty South motifs still aren't quite yet apparent, but the griminess of the later releases certainly is, as nearly every song here references drug dealing and murder, particularly the standout title track. In fact, like all the other pre-Ghetto D albums, Master P is at his rawest here, willing to exploit whatever hardcore motifs he could in order to get a rise from his listeners. He's joined on practically every song by his Cali-era No Limit colleagues, including King George, C-Murder, Big Ed, Cali G, Sonya C, and Silkk the Shocker. Fellow Bay Area hardcore rappers JT the Bigga Figga and San Quinn join the festivities on "Playa Haterz." If you want to hear Master P at his most unapologetically exploitative, this is where to go -- if you can find it, that is. [No Limit re-released and repackaged The Ghettos Tryin to Kill Me! in 1997 after scoring its distribution deal with Priority. Rapper 3-2 or Mr 3-2 is from Hiram Clarke located in Houston, TX. Also known as Lord 3-2 in the early 1990's. He was also associated with the group called the Convicts, the Southside Playaz and the Blac Monks . This CD is his debut solo album released in 1996 with Rap-A-Lot Records. The team behind the production are the legendary producers known as Mike Dean, John Bido, N.O. Joe, Crazy C and Swift. These guys added some of the most funkiest and mellowest beats ever to grace a record. While 3-2 is known for his smooth vocal delivery and laid back flow. This combination of beats and lyrics set the album up perfectly. It holds the ability to ride and play itself out. Featuring on the record is UGK, Too $hort, Southside Playaz, Sonia Moore, 8-Ball and MJG. The album also contains the remix of the Blac Monk track known as "Buddah Nature." Overall the record sustains great material along with an all-star appearance of guests and it is considered to be in the classic category. This is a RARE and eccentric CD that you must have for your collection.
